Well, I finally got to do my job today. I got hired on Monday at Just Kids Preschool (though I won’t be working with pre-schoolers), and I’ve been in training all week. So, finally, as the van pulled up today, I finished and was able to start. I walked out in the hall as the kids walked in.
“Who’re you?” asked a boy.
“Zach.”
“Jack?”
“No, Zach.”
“Why isn’t your name Jack?”
A fundemental question, that I’d never asked myself. Sure, every kid wonders why their name is their name, but not why it isn’t something else. I stared at the kid for a second.
“Why isn’t YOUR name Jack?” Ah-hah! I’d come up with the ultimate comeback, at least in the eyes of a six-year-old.
“Cuz it’s Chris. DUH….”
I was never like that when I was his age. Six is supposed to be such a sweet age. Oh, well. Must be those dang video games they play these days.
